Reel Rides Introduces Movie Car Diecast Replicas
Reel Rides has just introduced a new line of movie car diecast replicas. The first series of cars will be offered in three different scales: 1:24, 1:64 and 1:87. I had the chance to see these cars at the 2007 Toy Fair in New York City in February. I was excited to see that another company would be offering movie replicas since Ertl announced that they would be ceasing production of their Joyride Studios line. Reel Rides will be offering the following cars: Tommy Boy Belvedere, Dazed and Confused GTO, Top Gun Porsche, Dazed and Confused C10 Pickup and the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am.

Reel Rides will soon be available at Movie Car Mania.

Speed Racer Mach 5 and Figure by Art Asylum
Art Asylum has released two new Speed Racer car and figure sets. The first is a Speed Racer Mach 5 1:55 scale car with a Speed Racer figure. The second is Speed Racer's nemesis Racer X with his Shooting Star 1:55 scale car and Racer X figure. Both of these sets would be a great addition to your movie car collection.

Model Cars Instead of Candy in Easter Baskets
Toy stores are promoting healthful alternatives to candy-filled Easter baskets.
At Learning Express, parents can pick out $20 worth of toys, choose a colorful bucket to hold them and have the bucket personalized (for free) with their child's name.
KB Toys suggests themed Easter "baskets" matching your child's interests:
Art: Fill a beach pail with crayons, modeling clay, paint and jewelry-making sets.
Action figures: Start with a "Star Wars" helmet and fill it with "Star Wars" heroes or "Spider-Man" action figures.
Barbies: Fill a doll carrier with a Barbie Fairytopia doll and accessories.
Diecast cars: Pile a plastic dump truck with Matchbox cars or figures from the "Cars" movie.
Polly Pocket: Use a beach pail to hold a variety of pint-size Polly Pocket dolls, accessories and sets.

Collectibles: Franklin's 1:24 models have meticulous detail
Thursday, March 15, 2007By Don Hammonds, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
When it comes to models, tried and true just might be best.
Franklin Mint's been at the top of its game for years when it comes to 1:24 collectible model cars, giving detail after detail long before some of the newer companies were even on collectors' radar screens.
And what's even better, much of its collection consists of cars available almost nowhere else in the 1:24 scale and in some cases, not available anywhere else in any scale.
One of the two I had a chance to review was a 1970 plum-colored 'Cuda hardtop, priced at $105. This car replicates an option rarely seen on the real one -- a silver finished "shaker" air cleaner protruding through the hood.
The other was a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner Coupe equipped with a 440-cubic-inch "Six Pack" V-8. I'm unaware of any other company with a die-cast version in 1:24 scale. Franklin also has a yellow '71 Road Runner model equipped with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi engine. Both are limited editions, but the 440 version is rarer, with only 5,000 replicas available. They are priced at $120. Full story

Toy cars geared to girls
Toy cars geared to girls

They're small, fast and made for racing. But they are also pink or purple and sparkly, and come with a tiny doll.
Girls are getting their own line of $3 toy race cars this year from the maker of Matchbox - half a century after that brand, now owned by Mattel Inc., introduced its classic die-cast toy for boys.
Long after the women's movement prompted equality in playthings, with sewing sets for boys and tool kits for girls, no major toy company had endeavored to create an entire line of miniature die-cast racers just for girls.
``Sometimes you just see things that you look at, scratch your head and say, `Why didn't anybody think of this before?' " said Jim Silver, editor and co-publisher of Toy Wishes magazine. ``It's so obvious, but nobody has really done it.'' Full Story
