Batmobile Re-creation Sold at Barrett Jackson Auction

Holy auction insanity Batman! A re-creation of the original 1960's Batman Batmobile was auctioned off tonight during the Barrett Jackson classic car auction. The car sold for $185,000. The amazing thing is that this is a re-creation and it was made from a 1974 Lincoln, which if you do the math, couldn't have been used in the 1960's Batman series. However, it was a very nice looking custom car. This experience has only increased my craving for the hopefully soon to be released 1/18 scale Batmobiles. The latest news from Hot Wheels is that these cars will be available during Q1 of 2008. Let's just hope that there will be no more delays to the production of these cars. These cars will be available once they have been released from Movie Car Mania.

Nice recreation, indeed! I thought it would go for more, but they ran it through pretty quickly... It ws built by Mark Racop, one of the top builders for this particular vehicle (which is based on the original #1 car, not the later copies). For more info on these, and other Batmobile reproductions, a great info source is thebatcave8k.com; more on Mark and other pros, as well as many do-it-yourself fans.

Thanks for the info. I will check the site out.
